About

Hello there. My name is Katie. I am a 28 year old wife and new mum. My husband Michael works as a full time soldier in the British Army and until recently, I worked in a comprehensive secondary school. I am currently on maternity leave.
There is quite a lot of media attention surrounding army wives and I wanted to create this blog to demonstrate that we are independent people, with our own jobs, lives and opinions and interests. We don’t always operate in the shadows of our spouse’s job, and we certainly aren’t all members of a choir. Not that there is anything at all wrong with choirs…I just can’t sing for toffee, my neighbours would testify to this! Saying all this, although I am a military spouse, I do not wish to use this blog as a platform to discuss my husband’s job or answer any politically charged questions referring to it. Being married to someone who is often away is very challenging and sometimes lonely. I think this is something many people can relate to.

I have a huge interest in beauty, particularly make up and one day, I aspire to work as an independent make up artist. I am by no means an expert, just have a healthy obsession. I enjoy spending time with friends and beginning (if not always finishing) crafty DIY projects. I also have a great love and respect of science. I have always been a keen reader and love nothing more than a good book and a glass of wine, although my new role as a mum means I don't have much time or energy for such luxuries.

In May 2014, we found out we were expecting our first baby. This is one of the biggest events of our lives and nothing has compared to the highs and lows of pregnancy and motherhood so far. Like any other new parent, I have spent hours upon hours researching everything from cots to crazy names. I think most parents spend so much time on the internet and it can be a great place for advice and support…but also a place to get bogged down with facts and figures, do's and don'ts and can be pretty scary. So I hope that this can be a happy, relaxed place and we can share advice and experience because I for one, don’t know what the hell I am doing!

Thanks for taking the time to look.
